}}
Philip Scholz (born April 12, 1988) is a former American Paralympic swimmer.〔(Philip Scholz profile at USParalympics )〕 Being completely blind, he is classified in the S11 category of blind swimmers. Originally from Munich, Germany, Scholz came on to the international stage in December 2007 in College Park, Maryland.
==Early life==

Philip Scholz was born in Munich, Germany, to parents Thomas and Ariane Scholz. At a young age, Philip was diagnosed with Stickler Syndrome, a genetic defect that can cause problems with the ears, eyes, throat, and joints. Philip went blind in his left eye at the age of six due to retinal detachments, brought on directly by Styckler Syndrome.
The family, including Philip's younger sister, Mirjam, moved to the United States in April 1995, settling in into Mount Sinai, New York. Both Philip and Mirjam attended school in Mount Sinai, going through the district's elementary, middle, and high schools. In November 2002, Philip began losing sight in his right eye, also due to retinal detachments, and was declared "completely blind" in March 2005.
In 2006, Scholz was paired up with his current guide dog, Taxi, a male Labrador Retriever/Golden Retriever cross. 〔http://www2.teamusa.org/Athletes/SC/Philip-Scholz.aspx〕
Philip graduated from the Mount Sinai High School in 2007 and went on to Loyola University Maryland, where he graduated in 2011 with a degree in Global Studies. He currently holds dual citizenship between Germany and the United States.
